Author
MAtt has been cartooning since before he was born,
and has been mistyping his name for almost that long. He also has a
few other talents, such as movie editing and movie watching and programming
and writing. See his resumé here.
He's also crazy, creating
massive amounts of Web content for a small audience of
Dear Readers. If you are reading this, then you are one of them. Cool.
How it is Drawn
The artistic sophistication of the strip has come a long way
in the past two years; the first 104 episodes are testament to that. However, it still
has far to go, both visually and in its writing. Since the sabbatical, I've been
changing up the style of the strip. For a slightly simplified (and out of date) look at how
I work, enjoy this feature article.
History
This strip is the umpteenth incarnation of a strip that has been
around since 1995, dating back to MAtt's college days. The strip has been called
many things over the years, but it was originally known as the campus cartoon, "jhu.edu."
I was a cartoonist for all of my four
years at Johns Hopkins University, and in my final year, "jhu.edu" was born.
It proved to be popular on campus, and for some it was the only reason
to pick up the crappy campus newspaper (apologies to my old newspaper
buddies, but all campus newspapers are crappy in their own way).
This Web site represents the resurrection of the characters in new lives
with new friends.
If you want a blow-by-blow history, the best place
to go is the archives section. If you read
the old episodes in chronological order, you'll learn jhu.edu/life.edu/area 337's
history in much richer detail. You'll also be enjoying some groovy
comics.
Hopefully, I'll never have to change the name again.
Long live "Area 337."
